Society was great now. Well, at least for the wealthy group named Xafir. Every person born into a Xafir family is genetically modified to be the perfect baby. There are no exceptions to the rule. Every pregnancy has to be modified. The best looks, the most favorable traits, no cancerous genes, no hemophilia, ADD, Down syndrome, or any other unfavorable gene. But the most important modification is that they are made to be geniuses in their selected field.
On the other side, the poor live, like if it was back in the Middle Ages. Diseases spread easily, there are no vaccines, and people live until the forties. Quality of life is awful. Both groups of people are kept separate. The wealthy do not know about the poor, and the poor do not know about the wealthy. They were kept in isolation.
A married couple, John and Kristen Kellogg, are the geographer and the scientist of the Xafir tribe. The Kellogg’s are in their late sixties and had been thinking about having a child. Since the average age of death of these perfect humans is 190 years, the late sixties is considered young. In order to have a child, they need to get their blood tested and have a one month waiting period to get the transplant. The Kellogs thought that this was too much time and decide they would postpone having a child for a few more years.
The couple goes on an expedition since they have no burden of a child. As they travel through the forest and in the mountains, they encounter new lands. They record all the data. Being very productive, they never spoke about other things besides their mission. In route towards home, back to the Xafir community, they stumble upon a mysterious looking rock. They examined it and find a flashing button. Out of curiosity John, pressed the flashing button and the rock moves to the side and a glass elevator with a high power engine appears. They enter the machine and press the button inside. The machine shoots down going hundreds of feet per minute. After a few minutes, feeling no dizziness (that gene was removed), the elevator’s doors open to an unbelievable site - hundreds of dirty looking people, in a filthy city. Obviously, any type of sanitation doesn’t exist here. This city has no natural light. It is a dark and somber place, and the only sources of light is a huge fire above this cave-like city. Kristen and John cautiously and apprehensively step out and are greeted by a middle-aged man who says to them, “Welcome to Hell, you will never be able to escape.”
