Smashing, ripping, and pouring frozen vegetables into zip lock bags is what I did for community service day. As I spent three hours of my day in Bill’s Kitchen, I am now even more grateful for what I have. Being able to use a fork and knife while I eat, or just eating at all, is a blessing. Many people today are dying from starvation. It makes me very upset to think that there are children everywhere in the world that will never have the opportunity to grow and become a professional, a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, a mechanic, or anything they want to be.
Today in school, I overheard a conversation in one of my classes. A girl was offering her chips to anyone because she did not want to throw it away. Another student said, "Just throw it away, it’s not like the people from Africa would get the food." This comment disturbed me. The point of not wasting food is to show gratitude for what you have.
