Every sixth grader was supposed to recite their poem in the library. I read my poem like everybody else and went back to my seat. After patiently waiting for everyone to recite the poem, one of the teachers stood up and said, “We have chosen some students to read their poems on Poetry Night.” I didn’t even know this had been a competition, I was thinking to myself! I zoned back in and heard the teacher say “Hannah Greenfader.” I was so happy and shocked to find out I had been chosen.
Flies so high in the great blue sky
It blends with real birds flying by
My Kite
The wind whooshes hard as I stand guard
As my kite goes up and down and around and around
My Kite
Beautiful colors, red, yellow, green, and blue
The most beautiful bird I have ever seen
My Kite
