It's hard to feel Puerto Rican if you're not seen as one. Even though my name and background is Hispanic, people find it very hard to believe that I am, in fact, from the island and hold no ties to the United States. Im too white; too blond. And, to top it all off, i'm from Saint John's. It doesn't bother me. These people aren't my friends. I probably won't see them every again anyway. It just bothers me sometimes; to not be considered a true Puerto Rican because of the color of my skin.
