Where are you from?

Well it’s a bit complicated you see.

I come from an island, that had natives,

but was conquered by the Spanish.

Who then slaughtered and enslaved everyone who wasn’t white.

More importantly my past resonates with the Spanish.

Apparently I had family who came to this island,

who came to conquer and enslave.

Who pillaged in order to some day thrive

And slowly, my relatives have begun to conquer again,

this time not an island,

but a state of sunshine.

And here I lie

Indecisive about what comes next.

To conquer like those before me

or to tread on my own path
