Too many things in this world concern me, and I have serious doubts for the future of humanity. I have pondered why there are so many injustices in this world and how terrible things happen to good people while corrupt nasty people live lavishly. When I contemplate about the motives of every individual, I realize that although we were all raised differently, we each have a unique soul that is destined for either helping and contributing to society or destroying and hating. I had the privilege to go on a Mission trip with a Jesuit priest to one of the poorest parts of South America known as Santa Rita, Paraguay. In comparison to their living standards, I came from a land of opulence and luxury. I personally saw the devastating effects that poverty and lack of resources has on the people. How is it possible to have a family with kids who don’t have a school to go to, siblings with no work opportunities, parents who are dying of illness, and living in one room hut with no food, bathroom, or running water? At the same time, some families of wealth own several vacation houses in addition to their regular homes. It is frightening to know that some families can’t even leave their homes to work because the mud is too deep around them. Providing aid to those who are in need can minimalize this gap of wealth that is evident through out the globe. What concerns me the most is that the attitude of the wealthy is vainglorious and arrogant, while the deprived counterpart remains humble and in open arms to anyone that comes their way. Anyone can help if they truly wanted to, but too many of us are consumed with social media and forget about the people who suffer daily to survive. Regardless of the career I will have in the future, I will ensure to contribute to the community what is needed. I will hopefully develop a strategy to solve our global economic problem, or a program to decimate as much poverty possible. Aside from going on more missions, spreading the word gives people higher chances to want to get involved. The very nature of helping others should serve as an incentive to join a cause and make a difference. While you are comfortably reading this passage, there are millions who barely have clothes on their backs. In fact, after seeing so many people genuinely willing to help, it is enough to give me back hope.
