The Olympics

Posted by Silvia Valldejuly on August 22, 2014 at 11:05 AM

The Olympics are defined as: "An international athletic competition held every four years." All my life, I have never been the best athlete; actually, I have never been an athlete, period. I have never been an athlete in any of its meanings. Whether you define athletes to be "competitors" or "the ones that can not stand to lose or stay behind," I have never been any of these. I have gotten to one of the most exciting, yet dreaded moments of my high school career: Senior year. First semester, Seniors join together in a race towards college acceptances. They register in August for these "Olympics" and, most of them, race against each other to prove who ends up victorious or defeated. The strange and unique part of these Olympics is that each runner has a different finish line; only a few are racing towards the same one. But, who knows? Who knows where everyone truly dreams of going to? This is when lies and jealousy takes over the competitive and ambitious runners. The thing is, as I said, I am not competitive nor am I athletic. Thus I feel lost and nervous and scared as my classmates begin this race against each other.
