Going in and out
Of rooms and lives.
That was my summer in a nutshell.
I met people
Hung out in their dorms,
Sometimes for too long.
But out of all the rooms,
My favorite was Nathan’s.
Nathan’s room was open 24/7.
Well, really till 11:59 pm.
Nathan’s room was everything,
Literally.
It was a hang out spot
A tattoo parlor
A spa
A place where no worries are found.
He had recently gotten a new used record player
And would always find one to five pound jazz records at the market.
As my group of friends and I listened to one of Nathan’s flea market jazz records,
I realized that the moment I was living in was great.
I was in Cambridge, England
At Jesus College
In Library Court,
Sitting in a room with people I was so different from but so similar to.
After the record finished playing,
We left Nathan’s room.
And just like Nathan’s record, summer suddenly came to an end.
It was time to leave the room and the people in it.
