I am an American citizen.
I am catholic.
I am the oldest daughter of three.
I am a shattered social status.
I cannot define my island,
How can I define me?
I am torn between the land I love,
And the land I was taught to love.
I am always torn between
A land that will always be
different
And a land that will always be my
patria.
I am Puerto Rican.
I am sentences in English,
Thoughts in Spanish,
I am the back and forth
Of two worlds.
I am café con leche
Or expressos,
Azucar negra or splenda,
Boricua and American,
The product of two cultures,
That meet in the Caribbean.
I cannot define me.
