The Holocaust

Posted by Yaelle Shaked on February 13, 2014 at 3:15 PM

The ambiance of the museums, the sight of the horrific pictures and the noise of the constantly repeated audio would always frighten me. I became resistant to learning or reading about the topic. I would have nightmares about the atrocities committed. Just hearing or writing the words would bring awful images into my head. The Holocaust.

I began learning about the Holocaust since a very young age. I was always taught that the something terrible was done to the people of my religion and I should never forget it. At first, I was never able to fully understand the concept of the Holocaust but after I walked through my first Holocaust museum, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, I quickly understood who the Nazis were and their barbaric actions. As I walked out of that museum I held on to my parents afraid that I could be taken away from them at any moment and be sent to where the other 1.2 million Jewish children died. I was terrified.
