On Terrorism

Posted by Carlos Albors-Riera on October 3, 2013 at 11:20 AM

What makes a person crazy? If you're a right-wing fundamentalist who refuses to accomodate others' values into your society, in which you live along with others, are you crazy? Or are you close minded? Or are you plainly evil?

Or, are you a patriot? Are you someone who is willing to stand up for what he or she believes in? But then, to what extent would this patriotism be worthy of praise? Certainly, terrorism isn't worthy of praise, even when it's rooted in patriotic feelings.

Patriotism becomes terrorism when it crosses into others' personal values. And, in a plural society, where people have many, many conflicting values, terrorism is inevitable.

Patriotism is a fine line between pride and prejudice.
