An ember of quiescent love

Posted by Laura Bou on September 17, 2013 at 12:30 AM

That April morning the sun smiled,

it shined incandescently.

The leaves of the trees danced with the breeze

and sitting on a bench in the park they were.

He looked at the way her soft hair touched her cheek.

She looked at him, trying to remember from where did she recognize that look,

pure and crystalline like the ocean waters.

Their wrinkled faces didn’t recall one another anymore.

But the love still resided, even though they didn’t know it.

An ardent fervor existed

that had been hidden away over the years.

I have you so close yet I don’t know what to do.

I don’t know what’s become of me,

since I know that you mustn’t remember.

Why would you, when so many years have passed?

I was a shy child as I still am today.

You were a sweet girl in this world of affliction.

It is remembering the past that I can say:

I was a boy and you my sweet companion.

I don’t know what to do; I lose my breath.

I keep quiet, lost in reminiscence.

I remember as if it were yesterday.

You were the man of my dreams,

who captured my heart one fine day,

and who never my heart wished to forget.

They didn’t know what to do,

They didn’t dare speak.

The cause of this distress, they did not find,

and not even vaguely comprehend.

They left without having shared their thoughts,

thoughts that would never be told.

"Perhaps", she thought; "what if", he thought.

And they hesitated as they took separate paths.

He went one way and she went the other.

Thinking about their mutual love,

he still says: "Why did I keep quiet that day?"

and she says: "Why did I not cry?"
