As Obama prepares for war against Syria, millions of Americans watch as Republicans and Democrats agree (to a certain extent) on something. Obama, which won the Nobel Peace Prize, is willing to gage in war with a country miles upon miles away. Thousands of Americans fail to understand, as well as I, why the United States has to fight Syria’s war and it is causing uproar throughout the nation.
I, in part, fail to understand why the United States must enter this crisis. Although Syria could fall into utter chaos and their use of chemical weapons have caused great fear to the American government, Obama might loose credibility because of indecision in the past. Pelosi had not been so decisive and expressed her dilemma as a leader of the president’s party, which still has a strong liberal antiwar wing.
Syrian President Bashar al-assad gassed thousands of his won people last month but Obama stresses that his “credibility is not on the line,” and the United States is starting to lose any signs of weakness; the government has much to say about their certainty in the strike against the Syrian government and will not lose any chances in showing their strength and certitude for the strike. “This is not the time for armchair isolationism,” Secretary of State, John Kerry, said. The Obama administration is now firm in its decision and feels an obligation to act. Republicans such as McCain, express their support for the Syrian strike as well.
I’m incredibly indecisive about supporting Obama’s new plans because Obama won reelection because of his commitment to the middle class, above all; this new conflict steers the government away from its initial goals. I fail to see the Syrian crisis as an American crisis but I comprehend the actions the American government is taking against a potential threat. Also, Obama had once focused on bring troops back home and out of the Middle East but Syria is the country in the Middle East (and perhaps the world) with the most chemical weapons, so, here we go again.
