Short Story

Posted by Yaelle Shaked on September 4, 2013 at 5:15 PM

45 minutes ago my cover was blown. I’d been under for a murder case in Singapore as a secret agent… When Boss BF2 called me three weeks ago to tell me that I had a new, bloody case on my hands I was ecstatic. Finally the secret service agency (SSA) trusted me with a serious case! Boss BF2 told me to meet him at the office at 2:34 a.m. so he could give me all the details regarding the case. Once I arrived at the office he gave me all the information and then he told me words that I will never forget “The most important thing is to ALWAYS remain disguised!”. As I carried that brown, wooden box to my house I was extremely nervous. There were so many different thoughts rushing through my head as I packed my bags for a two week trip to Singapore.

After I finished packing I wrote a letter to my mother explaining to her that I was going to the Amazons for two weeks where I would not be able to remain in contact. I sealed the letter and sat down ready to take a fifteenminute nap until suddenly, I heard this loud pounding noise on my front door. I opened the door to two men with black boxes in their hands. The SSA sent them to make me a facemask in order to disguise my identity. After they finished, they placed the mask on my face, took my bags to the car and drove me to the airport. Once I passed through security and waited at the gate for thirty minutes, I finally sat down on my first class seat to Singapore.

I went to sleep in America and I woke up in Singapore. As I was getting off the plane I had to double check that I had all my belongings and that my facemask was still on. As I walked outside of the airport and stepped on the sidewalk I knew my mission had begun. I got into a taxi that drove me directly to my hotel. Once I got to the hotel I checked in under Liquisha Faigenblat and went to my room. After I unpacked my suitcase, got my maps set up and my equipment neatly aligned I went downstairs for a nice hot meal. I began to eat and then suddenly, that is when it happened. As I forgot about my habit when I eat dinner, I unconsciously began to sing as I was eating my roasted chicken and rice. At that precise moment I heard a “Joseline is that you?”. It was my 10th grade math teacher whom I was extremely close with throughout my high school years. I began to sweat and shake as I discretely looked up. I knew that was it. My mission was ruined, my cover was blown and my job was gone.
