My sister stands in the mirror and looks at herself. She inspects her face, moves her head to different angles. She likes the shape of her lips. She turns midway and looks at her stomach, how it grows when she breathes. It never looks quite thin enough; on the contrary, it looks and feels bigger than yesterday. There is no thigh gap in between her legs, and she wishes her hair were straighter. She looks at herself, and for a moment, I think she doesn’t like anything she sees. Finds a flaw in every space I call beautiful. So tell me, if you’re not beautiful, then what is?
