JSA

JSA is an amazing experience. Going to Washington with a bunch of your friends (22 seniors total this year) and staying in a hotel? Sign me right up! Is what I didn't say. Many people say the workload being a part of JSA entails is more of a "workload", but I stay away anyway. It's never really enticed me. Fortunately, JSA is also amazing for the people who dont go away. I arrived to school at eight in the morning and walked into the lounge. Quiet. Quiet. Quiet. Words cannot describe how amazing it was to walk into the lounge, give a peace sign to Sofia and Claudia and walk out again with nothing to disturb my peace. Spanish, usually a daunting class to have first thing in the morning, ended up being very pleasant. When your class consists of 5 people, only 2 of which actually participate willingly, the learning experience is augmented immensely. I retained more knowledge from that spanish class than any other in the last 14 years of Saint John's. I felt as though the words I said truly mattered. This feeling of importance motivated me to engage in the discussion further. I made a stupid comment about how poor people went fishing but it was quickly forgotten (after the teasing, of course). History was the same, but a little more heated. We were discussing privitization in general and the policies implented in Puerto Rico by Operation Bootstrap. I could not wrap my mind around how ridiculous it all was I was genuinely confused as to why anybody would do that to their nation. This confusion and anger at the United States was quickly directed to Nicholas after he made a comment in defense of the set of laws. Gutarra had to remind me to mind my language several times. In Calculus we watched Contact with Mathew Mcconaughey and ohmygodwashehotinthe90s. Writing was awesome, we talked about our opinions on bathrooms and our experiences with toilet mishaps. When Vero started telling her ringtoilet disaster Michi went into a fit of that laughter that doesnt have a sound because of how intense it is, you know? The one where you just open your mouth wide squint your eyes really hard and breathe whenever you can. Lunch was great and after school I showed Brandon the true power of the international France football team. I really do love JSA.
