Dec 30, 2015 my mom decided that the whole family had to go on a chinchorreo. I went into it knowing it would be the worst and guess what, it was. We went up a mountain in a rickety, gross bus filled to the brim with a disturbing din created by screaming children and the discordant crashing of percussion instruments. I had the biggest headache and listening to music with headphones was futile. Nothing could drown out the noise. The places we stopped at were awful. Two bars in, and every adult was either mildly tipsy or drunk. The last place we stopped at however, was like a magic garden. A magic cat garden. The cats emerged from the bushes slowly, cautiously. They draped themselves on the surrounding buildings, regarding everyone below them with an air of superiority. My sister and I picked up and held the select few that got close to us. They were soft and playful. The cats’ paws were covered in tiny wet particles of dirt and they left stains on my white shirt. Each cats eye glowed a different color with the golden light cast by the setting sun. Everything was not awful after all.
