The Tooth Fairy

Posted by RayRay on December 10, 2015 at 7:20 PM

Anthropologist now know that people believe in aspects of life that make them happy and give them hope. As humans, we have evolved into mostly rational creatures with the few exceptions in matters of the heart. So, when it comes to fairy tales we save those in the recesses of our adult minds only to be drawn out and repeated to younger generations. It's our human tradition; it's how we impart lessons and we hope they're absorbed properly.

A tiny magical human who, has a need and obsession to obtain fallen teeth when placed under a pillow and only once the child is asleep. Teeth: incisors, canines, molars and premolars of enamel, dentin, pulp, and nerves and blood vessels. The fact that this tiny human is intended to reassure the irrational and wonder-filled minds of youth that bloody teeth falling is normal, and, as a bonus, they will be comforted with some money if they hide it safely under their pillows.

Now adults have created a society of youth who look forward to mandibular wiggles and who will tie string to door knobs in spite of even the idea of pain. Because our fairy tales have created, possibly inadvertently, a youth culture with parentally applied capitalist concepts. Making a dollar is worth losing teeth. Fantasies fade away, but the stories, the Tooth Fairy will always lurk in the shadows.
