In the modern world, a particular trend that has been around for a while seems to be particularly popular with the youth. The youth are enthralled by groups of people that make noises with certain contraptions. The youth of today buys various items with the noise makers’ faces or names on them and in some cases, seem like they would do just about anything for them. The youth take part in some sort of ceremony every now and then (there is no evidence as to a particular pattern yet). They stand outside buildings in lines, waiting in extremely cold or extremely hot weather conditions. Some, set up tiny houses so they can wait for a few days. Their goal seems to be being the first one inside the building. Once the doors of the building open, the youth rush inside, their aim; to be the first ones in front of an elevated platform in the room. Once everyone is inside, the doors close and the lights shut off, leaving the tightly packed crowd in near darkness. The only source of light comes from the elevated platform, which is filled with lights of all sorts of colors. On the platform, several contraptions are set up. Large circular objects with golden ovals hovering over it, long sticks with a shorter stick that has a rounded end pointing into the platform, and heavy metal objects with long steel lines running from one end to the other. The crowd waits in anticipation, so pressed against each other that they collectively sweat. As soon as the noise makers step onto the elevated platform, the youth scream and squirm wildly as one. The crowd moves faster or slower depending on the intensity of the noise. If the noise is slow and generally quiet, the crowd will sway gently and make soft noises. If the noise is fast and loud, the crowd will jump up and down in an agitated manner and violently move everywhere. In some cases the youth preforms several rituals while the noise is being made. They go as follows: 1. The youth part the crowd in two and then run at each other with incredible speed, once they collide they push each other as hard as they can, 2. The youth climb on each other (one at a time) so they lay on top of the sea of tightly packed youth, the youth hold the individual up and pass them forward until they reach the elevated platform, the individual rolls onto the elevated platform, gets up, and throws themself onto the sea of youths so they can catch the individual and put them back down, 3. The youth opens a circular formation in the middle of the crowd and runs in a circle, pushing everyone they see. When the noise is over, the youth craves more. They chant in unison in the hopes that their beloved noise makers will return to the platform. Sometimes it works, others it does not. Although I have yet to fully understand these dangerous rituals that a common member of the youth practices, one thing is certain, it brings happiness to the youth.
