I Want

Posted by Sofía Cintrón-Schröder on September 4, 2014 at 5:10 PM

I'm not interested in learning what they teach in schools.

I could care less about what the area of a square as a function of the length of one of its sides is.

Or about when and how a certain war started.

Or about Huckleberry Finn's weird ass "adventures."

Or things that do not relate to my everyday functioning directly.

I'm concerned with the masses that surround me.

I'm interested in what happened here today, not what happened in Oregon in 1859.

I don't want to sit in a classroom for 6 hours a day staring at my teacher,

barely comprehending the words she speaks to me.

I want to set about in the world and explore.

Wander. Observe. Feel.

I want to learn what other people face on a daily basis, how they feel. What they think about when they first wake up.

Who they think about throughout their entire day while mindlessly drawing small hearts on the corners of their notebooks.

I want to find out what runs through people's minds when they see me.

I want to learn what it is to exist, live, survive. What it feels to be alive.

I want to do, to be, to feel.

I want sense. I want purpose.

I want to learn what it means to be human
