“Act well thy part, there all the honor lies”... This statement by Alexander Pope is the motto of the International Thespian Society. We dedicate ourselves to inspire others through the act of performance and whether it be through speech or song, we perform. Acting is the core of theatre. As actors we express ourselves through the words of a character unique and unlike any other because each character has their own story to tell- but sometimes that isn’t included in the script. We each have to decide for ourselves what drives a character’s actions, and how their actions are carried out. To be successful we must tap into the closet of emotions we hold deep within us and just… let them go. We learn to discover ourselves by walking a mile in another man’s shoes, we reveal a part of ourselves that nobody has ever seen before, and we live the life we never led. And no matter what fantastic or humble setting we may find ourselves in- a castle, modern day NYC, a farm- you name it, what makes the connection between the character, the actor, and the audience are the feelings we share, and the hope that we’ll find the life we were meant to live. So act well thy part- because we are actors. We perform, and we inspire.
