Phenomenal (Broken) Woman

By Laura Camila Rivera

I am easily broken

I hold responsible the fallacies of my skin

(Let me scrape it all away)

The size of my jeans

(Dented skin, seams of steel)

The persistence of my leg hair

(Time to drag a blade across my skin)

It may be the gap in my teeth

(Barbed wire, cut lips)

Or the poof in my hair

(Chemicals will burn)

Something always brings me down

I am easily broken

But I am easily put back together as well

Should it be the olive undertones below my surface

(The sunshine brings it out in me)

The curves of my hips

(Come take a roadtrip down the arcs of my body)

The length of my legs

(Two roads, open map)

It may be the spark in my smile

(Small wonders, parted lips)

Or the dark curls that fall on my face

(Every strand, a fighter. Here comes the rebellion.)

Something will always bring me back.

Niña I adore this poem.
This line: "Every strand, a fighter. Here comes the rebellion."
