To my most concerned Rebuff,
Let me look at him – the courtly man who has seen me.
Rebuff, with but your cold hand over me, let me love him. Can you not see his tender gaze? Are you not aware that he longs to be mine?
He wastes his days, sitting, thinking, loving. See him there by the vined arch, and watch him. Watch him and notice his steady eyes.
Will you not let me show him the same adoration?
Rebuff, assuage your envy and let him touch me, feel me, love me. You, with but your hardened heart against me, let me be his.
Can you not see the longing in his eyes? Have you not discerned the abyss in his soul?
He spends his time thinking, wanting, dreaming.
See him near the rose bush, and watch him. Watch him and feel the absence of love.
Will you not permit him an entry?
This man has dreamt of love, and love has found me.
Now, let me find him.
Most sincerely, Your Rose
