We're all going to die someday

It's strange to think how all of the people you know, all of the millions and billions of beings on this planet will one day no longer be here. How, in just a couple of centuries later, a whole new batch of people will go through all we went through, and walk on the same earth we did. And, just like the body after every 7 years, in 700 the Earth will have regenerated its population, like skin, and all of the organs and cells that compose it will be new. And it will...

Kvon and Bubble Buddy

Posted by Carlos Albors-Riera on February 14, 2014 at 9:50 AM Comments comments (0)

Kvon was lonely. His intensive PSAT preparation preparation had left him without friends as they had all parted ways, unconvinced that the PSAT was a test worth studying for.

Kvon created a bubble buddy. Bubble buddy was the perfect friend for Kvon. They did everything together. They played StarCraft together. They rode horses together. They even studied together.

Then, one fateful day, Desi popped bubble buddy. And Kvon cried. And cried. And cried.

Death Becomes Us

We tear our way through this world, leaving rips in the earth and holes in the people

We cloak ourselves

In dark robes, pick tools that dig in slash pierce rip tear wound carve

they are never quite as heavy

as what falls

after.

We call ourselves death and laugh in their face

Tiny curio

“Careful with it. It’s fragile,” she said to him.

They had recently found a simple, glass vase in one of their old boxes up in the attic.

“Do you remember who gave this to us?” he asked, inspecting the opaque crystal of that once forgotten vase.

“We bought it when we went to Paris.”

“Paris! Right.” He smiled.

“Go put it somewhere. I’ll finish up around here.”

“Okay.”

Do we ever find the right words?

Posted by [email protected] on February 13, 2014 at 7:40 AM Comments comments (0)

Sometimes I have nothing to say.

I wish I could sum up this feeling exactly as I feel it but right now I'm not even sure what that is. I see something beautiful and that generates a lot of chemical reactions that produce feelings I'm familiar with. These feelings I can more or less try to describe. My body is familiar to how these reactions make me feel.

Other times though, these chemical reactions inside my body produce feelings I don't understand, and...

Ambitious Carlos

As a little boy, Carlos was always ambitious. He would not allow anyone to beat him in any competition he was involved in. He was smart, witty, and wanted to become powerful like his distant relative Bill Gates. His rivalry began when Bill Gates would not meet him because he was not well known. Carlos sincerely wanted Bill Gates to sign his windows computer.

Carlos always dreamed become richer and famous as his uncle. He hoped for the day when his u...

A Stagnant Boy

The smoke moved like a dull wane, folding into low-cut lapels mingling through the subtleties of my teeth.

I stamped out my cigarette. The heel of my boot laughed as it became caked in a vignette of embers.

I lingered around the old fence. The paint was chipping off as my fingernails felt poignantly sharp. I crossed to the gate, let the rusted lock fall on abrupt contact, and opened to a hauntingly stolid house that sat and stared at me like a benign can...

Acting

Posted by Gabriela Rojo on February 10, 2014 at 8:05 AM Comments comments (0)

“Act well thy part, there all the honor lies”... This statement by Alexander Pope is the motto of the International Thespian Society. We dedicate ourselves to inspire others through the act of performance and whether it be through speech or song, we perform. Acting is the core of theatre. As actors we express ourselves through the words of a character unique and unlike any other because each character has their own story to tell- but sometim...

Kvon - Super Hero Story

Posted by Carlos Albors-Riera on February 7, 2014 at 12:55 AM Comments comments (0)

Kvon was flying through the city, defending its citizens from bad people, when suddenly, out of nowhere, attacked Desi - Kvon's arch-nemesis. They exchanged punches and just before Kvon could deliver his final blow, Desi pulled out a pack of cigarettes which rendered Kvon powerless.

Since Kvon had finished taking the PSAT, he had a lot of free time, and started to hang out with some sketchy people, from whom he picked up smoking. Shortly afterward, he was hooked - a chainsmoker at merel...

The Truth of Transience

He (straw-of-wheat/cotton-haired boy) is 1. The man is 2.

1. I remember a camera shutter went off, and then I felt, I don’t know.

2. How did you feel?

1. It’s just, I can’t quite explain it.

2. What do you mean? It’s a feeling.

1. I know, I know.

2. So you do know?

1. No. Just, okay. I’ll tell you. I spend time, a lot of my time, if n...
