Belleza.

Has beauty ever made you cry?

On my way to the parking lot, I noticed something I hadn't before. There's this big fountain near where I park. I usually don't look at it - it's so ugly. Yet, I decided to give it a good, long look.

It seemed beautiful. There were these vines swirling around the marble stones. The water sounded almost like bells; droplets chiming in unison. And, when I reached the parking lot, another beautiful thing happened.

The man that wo...

Le dije

"It's not your fault ." I hear myself say as I finally re-call what I can't remember. As I explain what I don't know and try to verbalize the fear in blacking out a memory. The phone pressed between my face and the pillow, and I can't tell if it's the wind on the other end or my tears finally beginning to flood the earpiece beneath, but I can't hear a thing. And the feeling of release I had long anticipated lies smothered between the pillo...

Candle-lit For Me

Posted by Dez P. on November 15, 2013 at 6:50 AM Comments comments (0)

When I was young I used to have this table, you see. I really don’t suppose it was anything special; pine wood, coffee-bean colored with dark splotches that matched the outer rings of my eyes. Staring at the table, not being able to peel my eyes away, it was the kindest petrifaction I could have ever felt. Like needle-beaked air fibers pecking at my sealed-plastic frame, my composure seeped out of the tiny holes that encumbered my figure. But I...

I'm telling you from experience

You think you're that great mystery everyone wants to solve.

But let me tell you from experience that if you're too intricate, people will not continue their quest.

People get tired.

Eventually, they move on to greater, simpler things.

And it's a shame really because I have a feeling you're great.

But you find the fun in feeling superior.

Hide behind your arrogance like it's pretty.

Make a big deal out of simple things like a c...

Clay

Like putty in the hands.

Molded to have the perfect figure,

With curves and kinks in all the right places.

Shaping the ideas in your head,

Squeezing your thoughts and actions to the point of suffocation.

To conform to this single apparently perfect thought.

That one.

Ideal.

Thought.

Purging societies so called “sin...

Little Girl

Little girl, there is a defeat in your eyes older than your mother.

Little girl, your back is twisted.

Little girl, why are you trying to hide in your own skin.

Little girl fear is not your color; you do not wear it well.

Please.

Little girl, I have seen your clenched fists loosen in defeat.

Little girl, I have seen your eyes glow and flicker out.

Little girl, I have seen you bite your words in half.

Little girl, ther...

The Circle of Time

The clock hangs high on the wall taunting me. Its hands lie on the time of 1:34 PM. I watch as seconds go by slowly even though I will them to go faster. Time is confusing. When I think of time I think about when Mufasa explained to Simba "the circle of life" while showing him the sunrise of the pridelands. Time is a cycle, is that why most clocks are round just like the one in this very room? And can that clock go any faster? I have so much stuff to do.
