Original

She lets the hours go by like seconds, irate and rude as the ones who already see the galaxies in her eyes try to help her see them too. She locks the door and hides away, not even looking up to see that the sky that was once pristine is now swollen and as she bleeds, she feels the relief of a job well done, hours of scratching and bright lights as the tweezers, like missiles,...

Drink You In

The way you dim the lights when your hands glide up and down your vitric curves; sharp enough to the slit the tongues of men who find themselves snakes in your presence

I get you all to myself

How you love to see their lungs rupture

How you tell them, “You’ll only wish you were breathless.”

And how your libidinous lips camber into the last smile they’ll ever see, as they fall one by one

The way you dance...

Two Doors

By Laura Camila Rivera

Four eyes, all focused

Nothing matters more

All day and all night

Working for the cure

Happiness, they call it

A full life, satisfaction

Two point five children

A complete plan of action

Separate beds, two cars

Church every Sunday

White picket fence, suburban home

You trusted me

And broke in my arms,

So I picked up your pieces

And set them back,

Just as they were.

But I hope you don’t mind

I went home that day,

With pieces in my pocket.

I buried them,

Under

My,

Skin,

Just to make sure,

You could,

Never leave,

Whole.

Broken Wings

They had been beaten and broken, to the point of being black and blue. Her beautiful and brightly colored wings were shattered for only moments but with quick company they came anew. She rose back up with her newly repaired wings and there was no stopping her from fluttering them. She was showered with attention from her newly formed freedom, yet paying no attention to what shattered her in the first place. They would shatter again, without question and i...

Betrayed

I ran to the gates and started hitting against it, trying to get out. Don't leave us! Many people around me were doing the same. The guards kept us from getting inside by banging the butts of their guns on our hands and threatening to shoot us by shooting into the air. I kept on trying to climb up the wall, desperate to enter, but a guard hit a man next to me in the stomach and he fell down, knocking me backwards as well. My back hit hard against a set of stairs behind me and I blacked...

(This is how I love you, dark and loud, a threat hanging over the back of your head. This is how I want you, quiet and small, cute and obedient. Scared of me even when I'm not there. This is how I enjoy you the most.)

(This is how I love you, you want to scream, grabbing her shoulders and shaking her with frustration. Why can't you understand that?! What's so difficult to comprehend?! You'll shove her down to the floor ...

He puffed on his cigar, ceaselessly. I watched him eagerly, expecting some words to come out of that smoke. But he sat still, in his own world, staring at the fumes. From time to time, he’d exchange glances from the grayness in the room to my eyes.

“Aren’t you going to speak to me?” I mumbled.

I blinked hard, and gulped, noticing his cold, voi...

It’s time to dye my hair again. I bought the box at Walgreens last night, but never got around to it.

I´m not a natural redhead. Just wanted to make that clear. In case some of you hadn’t realized.

I’ve got some grey hair under this red, you know. They are popping out more and more up here, and I’ve got a patch back here. One of the greatest fears of aging.

But I don´t dye my hair red because of the grey. More a...

Red splattered in fragments

from the bowl you smashed

when you were forcing your emotions

to echo.

It rolled off you in

angry

waves

and turned into a sea

of jagged fragments

that cut everything in its path

and enveloped me

in fire

I'm sorry about the blood

in your mouth

I wish it was
